Adult Spiritual Growth

Adult Spiritual Growth

As a committee, it is a team of people dedicated to providing experiences, connections, and educational opportunities for adults (and sometimes older youth). A variety of activities fall under this umbrella; including Bible studies, Feed My Starving Children, outings to Saints or Twins games, book club, movie nights, financial education, and other functions.

Sunday Education Hour

(Led primarily by Dr. Jim Ollhoff and sometimes Pastor Kevin or Pastor Rusty)

Bible, theological and faith themes are discussed. The sessions tend to have a calm pace, and there are usually good handouts or take home materials and there is always plenty of time for questions. These sessions are appropriate and open to people who are middle school or older.

  • Meets Sunday mornings 9:40—10:35 a.m. in the Fireside Room (library).

  • During Program Year (roughly Labor Day through Memorial Day)

  • Signing up in advance is NOT required.

  • No childcare (however, Sunday school is in session)

Monday ASG

(Led primarily by Pastor Rusty and sometimes Pastor Kevin or Dr. Jim Ollhoff)

  • Meets Monday evenings 6:30—8:00 in the Education Wing.

Bible ‘n Brew (Led by Pastor Rusty)

Wide range of theological, Biblical, ethical topics are discussed. There are almost always plenty of tangents and side discussions. The flow is dictated by the range of people who show up and we explore the conversation wherever it leads. The sessions tend to have the potential of spawning wide ranging conversations and even some disagreement. There are rarely handouts or take home materials. Discussions are not always appropriate for younger audiences but they are open to people who are high schooler accompanied by an adult or older.

  • Signing up in advance is not required.

  • Meets the fourth Thursday of the month 6:30—8:00 at Carbone’s Pizza in Farmington

  • During program year (September through May)

  • NO childcare.

Wine ‘n Word

(Led by Pastor Rusty)

A group of adults meet at FLC to share a glass of wine, some light snacks, and read large tracks of one of the Gospels. We spend ice-breaking time to learn something about wine or wine-making; then we concentrate on reading together the gospel associated with the upcoming liturgical year.

  • Signing up in advance IS REQUIRED to gauge snacks and wine.

  • Meets Mondays once a month 6:30—8:00 at Farmington Lutheran Church

  • During summer months (June through August)

  • NO childcare.

Movie Night for Adults

(Led by Pastor Rusty)

A wide range of mainstream movies are selected that have overt, hidden and/or latent religious themes. We serve popcorn and watch the movie together. Following the showing, attendees are invited to stay for an exploration of the themes presented.

  • Signing up in advance is not required, but HELPFUL.

  • Meets random Saturdays after worship ~6:30—9:30 in Education Wing at FLC

  • During program year (September through May)

  • Childcare may able to be arranged.
